Intimacy between Cultures

(Q07: 18.02.2020 - 09.03.2020)

Intimacy between Cultures addresses one of the most overused yet forgotten phrases, “I am human.” The film began as a project called Psychogeography, which by my definition means, “the study of how your emotions are influenced by the environment or atmosphere around you.”

Within this, the director took on a personal approach exploring Persian and Mongolian culture. He decided to explore his heritage, as it had always been a fragile topic growing up. Soon he found that he felt completely disconnected from the cultures he so strongly believed he should be part of; “I wasn’t as connected to it as I initially thought” he said in a concerned tone. “This project alone has been a really emotional journey for me, and reminded me how difficult it was searching for a space where I felt the most me.

Despite, my mixed background, I am a child of Queer culture and expression. My blood-worth might be rich, but it is within my culture is where I am my truest self and that is worth more than any human currency can hold. This film retells the journey my sketchbook has been on throughout this project. The original humans that interacted and their intimacy made me; me realising I am much more than their product of intimacy- I am experience and variation; my empathic nature and intimate experiences with others. The pure beauty of humanity when it is not polluted. The queer culture, a.k.a the contemporary modern culture.

I am human: what does it matter-?”

Self-directed and filmed.
