The Home Body

Is the last time most of us truly felt safe in Utero?

Having medically transitioned at a young age, the conception of The Home Body is deeply intertwined with my own anxieties and struggles surrounding fertility, parenthood, and the often frustrating lack of understanding I've encountered in both the medical community and wider society. I've always wanted to carry life into this world, but society’s attitudes toward gender-diverse individuals have added layers of complexity to my situation. These societal perceptions have only amplified my fears about creating a family safely and securely.

These personal anxieties aren't just my own struggles, The Home Body installation reflects the challenges faced by those of us who exist at the intersection of longing for parenthood. The Home Body will show that everyone deserves a home to feel safe when vulnerable. It will simulate that safe environment and highlight it’s importance starting from where it cognitively began… in the womb.

Through this work, I hope to foster a dialogue around how societal prejudice and medical misunderstandings can deeply affect our lives and dreams encouraging others to question what is considered 'normal' and to embrace the beautiful complexities of our identities and experiences.
